Maria Milagro Castro Ramirez, lovingly known as “Milly,” lived a life defined by faith, compassion, strength, and an unwavering devotion to others. To know Milly was to know warmth, laughter, and a love that was freely given without limits. Her presence had a way of filling a room — not only because of her beauty, but because of the light she carried within her.
Born and raised in the beautiful town of Palmares in Alajuela, Costa Rica, Milly built her roots among family, faith, and community. Palmares remained a cherished part of who she was, shaping the values of kindness, resilience, and generosity that she carried throughout her life. Later, around 1997–1998, she immigrated to Texas, where she continued pursuing her passion as a hairstylist. Her talent and dedication eventually led her to opportunities with Univision, where she traveled throughout the United States styling hair for television personalities and artists. But for Milly, her work was always about more than hair — it was about making people feel beautiful, confident, and cared for.
Her daughter-in-law Angelica shared that Milly was “a loyal follower of God, always reflecting His love onto everyone she met.” Faith was not simply something Milly believed; it was something she lived. She devoted herself to serving others and embraced every opportunity to be the hands and feet of God. Whether visiting hospitals, prisons, shelters, or praying with those who were struggling, she became a source of comfort and hope for countless people.
Her daughter Cindy remembered her mother as “a strong and powerful warrior” who faced life courageously and without fear. “The only fear she carried was a reverent fear of God,” she said. Though Milly carried burdens and hardships of her own, she often did so quietly, protecting those she loved from her pain. Cindy described her mother as her compass, her safe place, and the person whose wisdom, embrace, and love carried her through every season of life.
Milly possessed a joyful spirit that naturally drew people toward her. She loved to dance, laugh, and make others smile. Angelica remembered her as silly and charismatic, while Marlon recalled how she always wanted to make everyone laugh and feel included. Family evenings spent watching movies, sharing meals, and simply being together became some of life's most treasured moments.
Her love extended not only to people but to every living thing around her. Milly had a special tenderness for animals and opened her heart and home to those in need. She rescued eight stray animals over the years, unable to turn away from any creature needing love or care. Marlon reflected that his own love for both people and animals came directly from his mother’s example.
Above all else, Milly's greatest love was her family. As a mother and grandmother, she was fiercely protective, endlessly nurturing, and deeply devoted. Cindy shared that every grandchild was a priceless treasure in Milly’s eyes, and she made each one feel cherished and loved. Her family knew they could always turn to her because she gave freely of herself without hesitation.
Marlon perhaps captured her spirit best when he said, “If she could, she would take the shirt off her back and give it to someone.” That generosity was simply who Milly was. She gave without expecting anything in return. She loved without condition. She served without seeking recognition.
Though her family’s hearts ache in her absence, Milly leaves behind a legacy far greater than words can capture. She leaves a life that demonstrated faith in action, love without limits, and compassion without boundaries. Her influence lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the family who will continue carrying her love forward.
Her daughter Cindy holds tightly to a hope that brings comfort to them all: “Though I miss her more than words can express, I hold on to the hope that one day I will see her again.”
Until that day, Milly's love lives on.
