In Loving Memory of Ryan Lucas
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ryan Lucas, who left us far too soon on April 17, 2026. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend whose strength, resilience, and generous spirit touched all who knew him.
From the very beginning, Ryan was a fighter; born with challenges that would have discouraged many, he met life with courage, determination, and an unshakable will. Through multiple surgeries and hardships, he never lost his spirit. Instead, he grew into a man defined by perseverance, kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved.
Ryan had a brilliant mind and a strong work ethic, dedicating his career to working with commercial printing systems, where his skill and expertise were highly valued. But beyond his work, what truly defined him was his heart.
His love for family was unmatched. He shared a deep and special bond with his sister, Kassandra, whom he loved very much, and with his brother, Jimmy with whom he built not only a home but a life of mutual support and respect. He was a proud and loving uncle to his nephews, Liam and Elijah, who looked up to him and were inspired by his strength and character.
Ryan also shared a connection with his stepbrother, Michael, and his wife in North Carolina. Though distance and the demands of life and work kept them apart at times, the bond of family remained meaningful and enduring.
He held a special place in his heart for his brother-in-law, Klaus, whom he loved dearly. Ryan had the opportunity to visit Klaus in his native South Africa - an experience that reflected both his love of family and his openness to the world.
Ryan was cherished by his cousins Maegan, Rose, and Mia and their families; his Aunt Irene and Jay; his grandmother, whom he lovingly called "Mami"; and his Uncle Doug. Each relationship was meaningful to him, and he poured himself fully into those connections.
He also held close friendships that were like family - Pete, Magic Mike, Andrew, Brian, and Shawn - men who shared in his life, laughter, and loyalty.
Ryan had a creative soul and a rare gift for seeing the world differently. As a teenager, he picked up a camera and never put it down. He dreamed of becoming a war photographer and documentary artist, wanting to make a difference by telling real stories through his lens. While life led him down other paths, his passion for photography never left him.
He had an extraordinary eye for capturing everyday life - moments that seemed ordinary at the time but, through his perspective, became rich, deep, and filled with meaning. Ryan believed that "photographs are like wine - you need time to pass to really enjoy them." True to his words, he would often revisit his images months or years later, sharing them and bringing others back into moments they did not realize were so precious. In this way, he created connection, sparked conversation, and preserved memories that might have otherwise been lost. He was truly an artist.
He was also a loving companion to his beloved dog, Peppa, and shared affection for Bandit, his brother's dog - both of whom were an important part of his daily life and comfort.
Ryan stayed closely connected to those he loved, often reaching out with his familiar question, "What's the plan?" - a simple phrase that reflected his presence, care, and desire to stay connected. He also lived by a quiet but powerful philosophy: "Be a warrior in a garden," a reflection of both his strength and his gentleness.
He will be remembered for his courage, his loyalty, his laughter, his artistry, and the way he showed up fully for the people in his life. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Ryan is survived by his loving mother, Jeannette Lucas; his father, Jim Lucas; his sister, Kassandra; his brother, Jimmy; his stepbrother, Michael and his wife; his brother-in-law, Klaus; his nephews, Liam and Elijah; and a large extended family and circle of friends who cherished him deeply.
A service to honor Ryan's life will be held at ClearPath Cremation Center on Monday, April 27, 2026. Visitation will be from 3PM to 5PM with a Celebration of Ryan's life at 5PM.
Though his time with us was far too short, Ryan lived with a strength, creativity, and depth that will never be forgotten.
From his mother
Ryan, you were my hero. From the very first day, you showed me what true strength, courage, and perseverance looked like. Through every challenge, you did not just endure - you rose, again and again, with a spirit that inspired me to be better, to be stronger, and to be more present in life. You brought out the best in me simply by being you. Loving you has been the greatest honor of my life. I will carry you with me in everything I do, every day. You will always be my son, my pride, and my hero.
He will always be loved. He will always be missed.
